Life Legacy
Dr. Marvin M. Lomax Jr., of Tulsa passed away Tuesday, July 20th, 2010, at the age of 82. He was born on Oct. 13, 1927 in Cherryvale, Kansas the son of Marvin M. Lomax Sr. and Madolyn Lomax.
Marvin graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1945. He received a B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of Tulsa and went to work as a research chemist. Ten years later, at the age of 32, he decided to make a career change. A historian and archeologist at heart, Marvin decided to return to school and become a college professor. Within three years he had earned his doctorate from the University of New Mexico. Dr. Lomax taught at Northeastern State University and later until his retirement taught and served as an Associate Dean at the University of Tulsa. He was an authority on Medieval History and Egyptian History, as well as all historical events since beginning of time. Conversations with Dr. Lomax were quite interesting. Many times, he was asked by the local paper or news media to provide information or insight to historical events. Also, Dr. Lomax served on the Tulsa County Library Board.
Dr. Lomax enjoyed model trains, gardening, cooking, bridge, entertaining and traveling, and had a great love for his many pets. He took many train rides on the Silverton Express in Colorado, floated the Nile, and traveled in Europe.
He was preceded in death by parents, Marvin M. Lomax Sr. and Madolyn Lomax, and a great nephew, Robert. M. Lomax. He is survived by a brother, David Lee Lomax Sr. and his wife Nell of Tulsa; four nieces: Nanette Neafus and her husband Jim of Broken Arrow, Pamela Lomax of Bixby, Cynthia Leon of Greenwood, AR and Denise Lomax of Owasso; two nephews: David L. Lomax Jr. of Marietta, GA, Robert M. Lomax and his wife, Trish of Claremore. Also, he is survived by numerous great nieces and great nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family has suggested contributions in memory of Dr. Marvin M. Lomax Jr., be made to the SPCA, Eastside Christian Church or the charity of your choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gary Kelley’s Add’Vantage Funeral and Cremation Service. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Add’Vantage Funeral Service, 9761 East 31st Street, Tulsa, OK. Burial will be in Cherryvale, KS.
